US cuts fighters, ships, and tanker aircraft for NATO in Europe
15.06.2026 21:02At the Group of Seven summit, being held from June 15 to 17 in the French town of Évian, European leaders will discuss conditions for peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine with U.S. President Donald Trump.
This is reported by Suspilne, citing its own sources.
According to the outlet’s source, a window of opportunity for diplomacy may now be opening: Ukraine is in a position of strength, while Russia cannot win by military means and its economy is under strain. The source recalled that European leaders, at their meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky in London earlier this month, had already discussed the question of peace negotiations.
“Together they formulated five main points, which will also be discussed in Évian with President Trump,” the source noted.
The outlet’s sources indicated that if real peace negotiations take place, their format would most likely look like “Ukraine, Russia, the United States, and Europe.” However, the most difficult question at this point remains who will speak on behalf of Europe.
“There is no final answer yet. Both effectiveness and legitimacy are needed. Effectiveness means: not too large a format. Legitimacy means close coordination with Ukraine, the United States, and European partners,” the outlet’s source explained.
At the same time, Suspilne’s sources expressed doubt that the summit would produce an agreement between the G7 countries and Ukraine on a new peace negotiation initiative.
It was previously reported that the war in Ukraine and the war in the Middle East would be the main topics of the G7 summit. According to Reuters, France, as the host country, is preparing to make the summit comfortable for Trump. Trump and Zelensky will take part in a G7 working session in France and may meet on the sidelines, but no bilateral meeting between the leaders is planned.
