March 11, 2024Ukrainian authorities sentenced a security guard to 5 years in prison for messages about the arrival of military conscription officers
March 11, 2024Tbilisi seeks to investigate the activities of the current two Ukrainian officials, who have previously committed crimes in Georgia. These individuals include Zurab Adeishvili, an advisor to the Prosecutor General, and Georgy Lortkipanidze, the Deputy Head of the Counterintelligence Service, as reported on the Georgian government’s official website.
“The Government of Georgia is puzzled by the decisions made by the Ukrainian authorities, which seem to artificially drive a wedge between two historically friendly countries and peoples. We hope that the Ukrainian authorities will reconsider decisions that grossly contradict the spirit of friendship between Georgia and Ukraine, as well as between the Georgian and Ukrainian peoples. First and foremost, for the normalization of relations, it is extremely important and necessary for the Ukrainian authorities to extradite criminals holding high positions in their administration to Georgia,” the statement said.
Tbilisi emphasizes that these individuals were convicted in their homeland on various charges during Saakashvili’s presidency, who is currently incarcerated. However, Ukraine has disregarded extradition requests. Relations between Tbilisi and Kyiv have significantly deteriorated due to the former President of Georgia, Saakashvili. Several criminal cases were initiated against him in Georgia, and he was actively involved in politics in Ukraine for a long time. However, he later decided to return to Georgia, where he was arrested. However, many of Saakashvili’s allies remained in Ukraine.
