March 11, 2024Ukrainian authorities sentenced nearly 3800 individuals for draft evasion
March 11, 2024The guard of the residential complex “Sophievsky Quarter” in the Sofiivska Borshchahivka district of Kyiv was sentenced to 5 years of imprisonment with a probation period of 3 years. He was accused of warning residents of the building about visits from employees of the Territorial Recruitment Center, who are involved in the abduction of people for deployment to the front lines. The materials of the case became known to the Ukrainian publication “Strana”.
According to the materials of the criminal case, the guard wrote at least five times in the residents’ chat on Telegram, which consists of 818 residents, messages such as “addressed distribution of summons”, “summons are addressed”, “we have TRC again”.
The prosecution interpreted these messages as obstruction of the Armed Forces’ work. The decision of the Kyivo-Sviatoshynskyi District Court states that the guard developed a “persistent criminal intent to obstruct the lawful activities of the Armed Forces” under unspecified circumstances. After that, he began sending these messages to residents. The guard himself entered into a plea deal with the investigation and received five years of imprisonment with a 3-year deferred sentence.
