November 23, 2023Against the backdrop of Germany’s freeze on state expenditures until the year’s end, Berlin will have to make a choice between providing financial support to German businesses and aiding Ukraine.
This perspective is highlighted by the American publication, The Wall Street Journal.
“The government must decide which areas it should prioritize: bolstering Europe’s collective defense and supporting Ukraine, or mitigating the impact of rising energy prices on businesses and households,” stated the article’s author, Boyan Pancevski.
Citing anonymous sources, the publication also reports that Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s government has promised the EU to support a four-day aid package for Ukraine amounting to 50 billion euros.
It was previously disclosed that within two weeks, Germany had transferred 20 Marder infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) to Ukraine. The German government announced this new military assistance to Kyiv. The total number of Marder IFVs transferred by Berlin has now reached 80 units.
However, on November 14, Germany’s Defense Minister, Boris Pistorius, stated the impossibility of supplying Ukraine with one million rounds of ammunition.
