The German government has entered into an agreement with Israel to purchase the latest Arrow 3 missile defense system.
At the ceremony, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius and his Israeli counterpart Yoav Galant signed the relevant documents. This arms deal will be the largest in Israeli history.
“This is a historic day for our two countries. Arrow 3 is one of the best, if not the best system in the world. We see from the daily Russian attacks in Ukraine how important air defense is,” Pistorius told BILD.
The signing of an agreement to purchase Arrow 3, according to the head of the Ministry of Defense, will not only provide Germany with protection from ballistic missiles but will also open up the possibility of producing this system in Germany.
“I am the son of a Holocaust survivor. If my mother were here, I would ask her, “Can you believe this?” She would probably answer that she could never imagine such a thing but I’m sure she would be proud of it. She always said that the Germany of today is not the Germany of then,” Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant told BILD.
According to the German Ministry of Defense by 2025 one of the three Arrow 3 systems will already be operational.
