November 23, 2023In Ukraine, a critical situation is emerging due to the blockade of the Polish border: goods from Europe are becoming more expensive, and some items might completely disappear from store shelves.
Oleg Khomenko, the CEO of the “Ukrainian Agrarian Business Club,” reported on this matter.
“The situation at the border is critical; thousands of trucks are waiting in queues on both sides of the border. Given the circumstances, the flow of goods from Europe through the blocked routes has decreased significantly, leading to additional costs for both Ukrainian and European producers,” he stated.
The drop in temperature further increases expenses for carriers, thereby impacting final prices for consumers.
A shortage of certain goods, including those from Polish production, might soon become a reality due to the border blockade. Currently, there isn’t a significant shortage. However, Ukraine’s food security is not threatened as it independently produces most food products to meet its domestic demand.
At the same time, exporters of goods are suffering from these disruptions.
