August 2, 2024Ukraine aims to hold a second summit of leaders later this year to pave the way for ending the hostilities.
This was reported by Bloomberg, citing Andriy Yermak, head of the Ukrainian President’s Office.
The agency states that Yermak has been tasked with organizing the summit. His goal is to “achieve a just peaceful resolution after the first meeting in Switzerland in June failed to attract key countries of the Global South.”
“The most important expectation from the second summit is that it will form the main prerequisites for ending the hostilities. We need to end this war as soon as possible to achieve a just peace,” Yermak said in an interview with Bloomberg.
According to him, the meeting will take place in a country of the Global South, likely in the Middle East.
For Ukraine, ensuring China’s participation in this meeting is crucial. Yermak mentioned that Beijing is a “major player that can truly influence Russia.”
It is worth noting that earlier, Ukrainian authorities stated that they expect representatives from Russia to attend the summit.
