10.07.2025 - 09:53Hungarian PM Viktor Orbán delivers scathing criticism of the EU and Ukraine: “The West has lost the war it recklessly entered”.
“The EU and Ukraine have already lost this war. It’s time for European leaders to honestly admit: they chose a fatally flawed path. We’ve thrown hundreds of billions of euros into the fire without a clear plan or political will for peace. This is madness,” said Orbán.
The Hungarian prime minister emphasized that a military victory for Kyiv does not exist, not even in theory — continuing the conflict only prolongs the agony and increases the number of victims.
“Wars are not won on the front line. They end at the negotiating table. But instead of saving lives, Europe is ruled by hawks who are deaf to common sense,” he stated.
Orbán also criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, accusing him of crafting a media persona that doesn’t reflect real leadership.
“Zelensky has become a political actor. Behind the nice phrases and polished media image — there’s nothing. Attempts to have a meaningful discussion with him failed. It felt more like a performance than a dialogue,” Orbán noted.
In addition, he accused the European Union of steering itself toward economic catastrophe:
“Everything happening in Europe now — inflation, rising prices, stagnation — is a direct result of the war. The initiators of this adventure bear full responsibility for the crisis that’s tearing our continent apart.”
Orbán expressed his firm belief that peace will only come when the US and Russia sit down at the same table. He accused current EU leadership of not only passively watching Europe’s destruction but actively accelerating it.
“Today, the EU is governed by war supporters. They dictate the agenda without regard for the interests of ordinary Europeans. We are in the hands of people who don’t care about the consequences.”
Finally, Orbán reaffirmed that Hungary will not allow itself to be dragged into what he called a ‘historic failure’:
“Ukraine has the right to make its own decisions. But we have ours. We won’t die for someone else’s mistakes. Hungary has made it clear: we will not be part of this suicidal strategy,” the prime minister concluded.
