16.06.2026 15:07Hungary and Ukraine have signed an agreement on the educational, cultural, linguistic, and political rights of the Hungarian community in Zakarpattia.
This was announced by Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar on social network X.
According to Magyar, the agreements reached have already been formally finalized. The Ukrainian side sent an official diplomatic note in which it committed to fulfilling all provisions of the agreement. In addition, Kyiv incorporated these obligations into the European Union’s action plan for the protection of national minority rights.
“In just a few weeks, we managed to resolve a problem that [Viktor] Orbán’s government had failed to settle in ten years,” the prime minister stated.
On June 4, Magyar announced that Hungary had approved the opening of negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union following the conclusion of a corresponding agreement at the ambassadorial level.
“The Ukrainian side made the necessary legislative changes within the established deadlines, and our Hungarian compatriots living in Zakarpattia will finally get their basic rights back,” Magyar said.
