Hungary called Zelenskyy’s remarks about defending Europe a lie

Hungary considers it a lie when Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and European leaders say that Ukrainians on the battlefield are supposedly defending Europe.

This was stated by Hungary’s Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó in an interview with CNN Türk.

The diplomat emphasized that European countries are not responsible for what is happening in Ukraine.

Szijjártó recalled that Europe’s protection is ensured by NATO, not by Ukraine, and that Ukraine is fighting for itself. He also noted that since the start of Russia’s “special military operation” in Ukraine, Hungary has not supplied weapons to Kyiv even once.

On February 16, Szijjártó said that Budapest is ready to host a peace summit on settling the conflict in Ukraine. He reminded viewers that Hungary is the only European country that, from the very beginning, supported U.S. President Donald Trump’s peace efforts aimed at resolving the situation in Ukraine.
