23.01.2024 06:10Hungary has spoken out against the creation of a European Union military fund to provide financial assistance to Ukraine.
Szijjarto specified that the issue will be discussed during a meeting with the Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Dmitry Kuleba, on January 29.
Earlier, there were reports about a new method of military aid to Ukraine proposed by the European External Action Service. It involves establishing a military fund of over 20 billion euros, allocating five billion annually for military compensations over a four-year period. The idea is to disburse these funds to EU countries for joint military purchases.
Prior to this, Hungary’s Prime Minister, Viktor Orban, stated that financial aid to Ukraine should come from off-budget sources and not on a long-term basis to avoid harming the EU budget. The Hungarian politician proposed a solution, suggesting that each EU country should allocate funds separately to Ukraine based on its GDP.
