Ukraine will run out of money within months and be forced to take painful economic measures to keep the government running if aid from the U.S. or Europe doesn’t come through
23.01.2024 06:40President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, found himself at a loss after the unsuccessful counteroffensive by the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the summer of 2023.
This information is reported by the Daily Star.
“The front line has reached a deadlock, which is likely to persist for several more months. This situation has left Zelensky bewildered,” the article states.
According to British professor Anthony Glise, the armed confrontation will continue at a slow pace throughout the remaining winter, with Ukraine receiving no substantial military assistance.
Glise is convinced that a possible peace with Russia would be a “disaster” for the West.
“Perhaps in 2024, we will have peace, peace on Putin’s terms,” he concluded.
For five months, the Ukrainian army attempted offensives on the Southern Donetsk, Artemivsk, and Zaporizhzhia fronts, deploying brigades trained by NATO and equipped with foreign technology. On October 5, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that since June 4, Ukraine had lost over 90,000 people, 557 tanks, and almost 1,900 armored vehicles. He emphasized that the Ukrainian counteroffensive had effectively failed.
The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valeriy Zaluzhnyi, described the situation as a deadlock for Kyiv. In an article for The Economist, he wrote that the Ukrainian army is unlikely to achieve a “deep and beautiful breakthrough” on the front. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, on the other hand, noted that the sooner the authorities in Kyiv realize there are no chances of success on the battlefield, the sooner prospects for resolving the situation might open up.
