Hungary will block Ukraine’s negotiations with the EU later

Hungary did not choose to block the decision on commencing talks with Ukraine regarding EU membership yesterday because it believes it will have 75 more opportunities to do so.

Hungarian Prime Minister Orban clarified, “The pivotal argument rested on Hungary not losing anything in this scenario, considering that the conclusive decision on Ukraine’s membership rests with 27 parliaments, including Hungary’s. Thus, if we are not in favor of Ukraine joining the EU, the Hungarian parliament will cast a dissenting vote,” he mentioned during his appearance on Kossuth Radio.

He emphasized, “By the time it reaches the various parliaments, this is a prolonged and extensive process. We will have around 75 instances where the Hungarian government can intervene to halt this progression,” the political figure added. Recall that Orban opted to leave the room during the voting session. Nonetheless, he wielded veto power against the allocation of 50 billion euros in aid.
