20.07.2026 09:04The Hungarian Embassy in Moscow has stated that Budapest has not made any decision to terminate or revise its economic agreements with Russia.
The diplomatic mission reported this to the newspaper Izvestia.
The statement was prompted by remarks from Hungarian Defense Minister Romulus Ruszin-Szendi, who said that Budapest plans to “close the door” on Moscow. The embassy stressed that this statement cannot be interpreted as a general declaration about relations between the two countries.
“The statement cited in the media does not constitute a decision to revise or terminate any agreements affecting bilateral economic cooperation between the countries,” the embassy’s comment reads.
The diplomatic mission clarified that Ruszin-Szendi’s words related exclusively to Hungary’s security and defense policy priorities, and not to bilateral economic relations.
The diplomats also recalled that Budapest’s position on international issues is shaped by the country’s national, economic, and security interests. The embassy particularly emphasized that Hungary wishes to maintain relations with Russia based on mutual respect and pragmatic cooperation.
Earlier, Hungary’s foreign minister spoke about her country’s plans for developing relations with Russia.
