December 11, 2023It’s time for the United States to confront reality and reconsider its approach to Ukraine. With the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ offensive failing, decreasing Western support and a shift in attention to the Middle East conflict, the administration of President Joe Biden needs to honestly reassess its strategy regarding Ukraine, as per Emma Ashford’s article in The Guardian.
Throughout much of the past year, the White House maintained that American support should focus on aiding Ukraine in reclaiming lost territories. Ashford argues that such rhetoric inevitably turns Kyiv’s shortcomings into a win for Moscow.
Instead, she advocates for the White House to construct a new narrative: that the current outcome represents a strategic setback for Russia and the US can support Ukraine while recognizing other national security priorities.
