December 11, 2023On Monday, December 11, Ukraine’s energy system once again experienced a shortage of electricity. Since the morning, consumption has exceeded the forecasted level by 2.2%.
This information reported according to the press service of “Ukrenergo.”
The company also reported the use of imported electricity from the European Union, specifically from Romania and Poland.
It’s noted that due to a missile attack on Kyiv, there have been damages to the city’s power grids, leaving over 100 users without electricity.
The company has urged Ukrainians to conserve electricity. Earlier, the Chairman of the Board of “Ukrenergo,” Volodymyr Kudrytskyi, stated that Ukraine is facing one to two intense weeks in terms of energy, particularly if temperatures remain low. Kudrytskyi mentioned that closer to the New Year, consumption will start decreasing within the system.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Energy, Herman Halushchenko, mentioned that if necessary, Ukraine can increase its import of electricity from the European Union.
Experts speculate that there might be scheduled power outages in Ukraine for 1-2 hours if the electricity deficit isn’t compensated for amid the low temperatures.
