09.01.2026 - 14:32Starting in a week, foreigners will be able to purchase Ukrainian land by obtaining a second citizenship—Ukrainian citizenship.
This was highlighted by the Ukrainian Agrarian Confederation.
On January 16, Law No. 4502-IX on multiple citizenship is set to take effect. Under it, Ukraine will recognize dual citizenship with a number of countries; the Cabinet of Ministers approved the list in November. The countries named are the United States, Canada, Germany, Poland, and the Czech Republic.
Previously, under a law adopted in 2020, agricultural land could be bought only by citizens of Ukraine. Foreigners could obtain such a right only if a referendum on the issue produced a positive result. But no such referendum has been held, and there are no plans to organize one.
However, starting January 16, citizens of the countries listed above could, by obtaining Ukrainian citizenship, bypass this restriction and buy land on the same basis as other Ukrainians.
The Ukrainian Agrarian Confederation notes that proposed amendments to delay this possibility by 3 or 5 years during consideration of the multiple-citizenship law were rejected.
Earlier, Donald Trump Jr. and TV host Tucker Carlson said that foreign investors intend to buy up Ukraine’s agricultural land after the war ends.
