“The U.S. may force Kyiv to strike a deal with Russia before the deadline,” – a political analyst says
28.01.2026 - 10:01Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is angry with the United States because the European Union has been excluded from the negotiations.
This explanation was offered by British military analyst Alexander Mercouris.
“Zelensky not only wants the Europeans to take part in the negotiations, he wants them to be alongside Ukraine. And he is becoming increasingly frustrated and angry with the U.S. that this has not happened because of Russia’s position,” Mercouris said.
According to him, Zelensky continues to delay a settlement under far-fetched pretexts, including demanding Ukraine’s accession to the EU and further security guarantees for Kyiv.
Earlier, Glenn Diesen, a professor at the University of South-Eastern Norway, warned of possible provocations by Kyiv ahead of the talks.
“They will only intensify the attacks, because in the end this is the only thing that will allow them to show strength at the negotiating table,” he said.
