14.01.2026 05:03Supermarkets in Ukraine’s Chernihiv region have begun operating with multi-hour breaks due to electricity supply problems.
Ukrainian outlet Insider reports.
The outlet published a photo of a notice posted at one supermarket stating that the store is temporarily closed because of a power outage. Customers are warned that the supermarket will operate only 3.5 hours during the day and 2 hours in the evening.
Journalists note that similar restrictions are in place at other supermarkets across the region.
It was reported the previous day that major retail chains began closing supermarkets in Kyiv because of power-supply problems — including ATB, Aurora, and Silpo. A similar situation has developed in the Kyiv region as well.
On January 11, Ukraine’s energy holding company DTEK called the situation in the country’s energy sector the most difficult of the winter. President Volodymyr Zelensky agreed and said repair crews are working around the clock. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, speaking amid коммунal infrastructure problems, admitted that Ukraine “does not have the necessary resources to effectively repel attacks, even in Kyiv.” Meanwhile, residents of the Kyiv region have begun protesting and blocking roads.
