In Chernivtsi, pig carcasses infected with African swine fever were found on the banks of the Prut River

In Chernivtsi, carcasses of pigs infected with the African swine fever virus were found on the banks of the Prut River.

This was reported by Angela Kosovan, the deputy head of the regional State Consumer Service.

A fresh carcass of a two-month-old domestic pig, as well as 12 parts and by-products of an adult pig, were discovered on the bank. Specialists destroyed the remains and carried out disinfection. The area where they were found has been closed off and declared a quarantine zone. A foul odor was reported in the neighboring district.

It is worth noting that in November last year, 50 pig carcasses infected with African swine fever were dumped in a field in the Obukhiv district of the Kyiv region by unknown individuals.

In September 2023, an outbreak of African swine fever was recorded in the village of Stayky in the Kyiv region. The disease was confirmed in a private farm, leading to the culling of seven pigs and the establishment of a 40-day quarantine.

Additionally, in August, there was an outbreak of African swine fever in the Vinnytsia region. Following the confirmation of the disease, all livestock were culled, and the pigs were burned at a designated site.
