In Germany, the attacker of Ukrainian basketball players has been detained – Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported

The assailant of the Ukrainian basketball players in Germany has already been detained. One of the athletes died from a stab wound, while the other remains in intensive care.

This was reported by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Oleg Nikolenko, on Facebook.

“According to available information, the police have already detained the attacker. Investigative actions are ongoing,” noted Nikolenko.

He further stated that the case is under special control of the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“The Consulate General in Düsseldorf has already held talks with the head of the city police in Essen. Consuls emphasized the need for a prompt investigation and bringing the criminal to justice,” added the Ministry representative.

Artem Kozachenko’s condition is stable and there is no threat to his life.

Earlier today in Düsseldorf, a 17-year-old Ukrainian basketball player, Vladimir Yermakov, was killed.

The Basketball Federation of Kyiv adds that Yermakov was stabbed by a group of unknown assailants who attacked him and another Ukrainian basketball player, Artem Kozachenko. He is currently in intensive care.
