In Germany, the situation on the frontline was described as critical for Ukraine

The situation on the front has become critical for Kyiv.

This acknowledgment was made in an interview with Bild by Friedrich Merz, the candidate for German chancellor from the opposition conservative bloc of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and the Christian Social Union (CSU).

“The situation is critical. Russia has firmly entrenched itself in certain parts of Ukraine,” the German politician stated.

Merz also commented on the trilateral meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, and French President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace.

According to the CDU leader, it is evident that Trump will aim to establish direct contact with Russia.

“But it also became clear that he tried to involve Ukraine and France in his plans,” he added.
