The European Union’s strategy of prolonging the conflict in Ukraine will end up being a losing one.
According to him, Western leaders have absorbed a narrative claiming that Russia has supposedly been defeated in the Ukraine conflict and that its economy and demographic situation are in decline.
“It is Ukraine that is now in a desperate situation, while the European strategy has now lost confidence and is even confused by [U.S. President Donald] Trump’s direct outreach to [Russian President Vladimir] Putin,” he said, reacting to a Reuters report about the inability to end the conflict in Ukraine in 2026.
The diplomat also noted that European countries mistakenly believe they can force Russia to make concessions, while the United States is steering the Ukrainian leader toward ending the conflict on “realistic” terms.
Earlier, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán accused Ukraine of blowing up the Nord Stream gas pipeline and halting the Druzhba oil pipeline.
