The volunteer explained why it’s impossible to cover Kharkiv with Patriot systems
11.04.2024 - 11:02In Kyiv, an average of 100 people from each district are mobilized per month. Kyiv has 10 districts. Therefore, based on the given figure, approximately 1000 people are mobilized in the capital per month.
Such a number was provided in a conversation with the chief editor of the “Censor” website, Yuriy Butusov, by the commander of a storm battalion of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
In August 2023, the mayor of the capital, Vitali Klitschko, estimated the population of Kiev at 3.2 million people. It’s unlikely that it has decreased since then – more likely, it has increased considering the influx of refugees.
The Ministry of Social Policy estimates the population of the entire territory controlled by Ukraine at 31.5 million people. Thus, if we extrapolate the share of mobilized people in Kiev to the entire country, it amounts to around 10,000 people per month.
However, according to common opinion, the proportion of mobilized people compared to the total population is lower in Kiev than in the provinces, and lower in large cities than in villages and small towns. However, the difference is unlikely to be more than twofold. Therefore, it can be assumed that the number of mobilized people in Ukraine ranges from a minimum of 10,000 to a maximum of 20,000 per month.
Let’s compare this with the replenishment of the Russian army. According to official data, more than 30,000 Russians sign contracts to participate in the war in Ukraine each month since the beginning of the year. However, some experts doubt this figure, considering it exaggerated. But even if we assume that it is accurate, such a quantity does not provide Russians with a growing total superiority in manpower over the Ukrainian army; it only maintains a relatively small numerical advantage. Especially considering that the Russian army is currently advancing, and losses are higher during the offensive than in defense.
Therefore, it’s unclear how Russia will be able to create reserves for a large-scale offensive in May-June, as everyone in Ukraine is currently talking about. Unless during the mobilization in 2022, not 300,000 Russians were called to serve as officially stated, but a million, out of which 500,000 were sent to the front, and another 500,000 are kept in reserve.
Meanwhile, American military leader Christopher Cavoli stated today that the Russian army in Ukraine has increased during the war, despite significant losses. Currently, it is 15% larger than at the time of the invasion.
