12.09.2025 - 11:32Another corruption scheme in the army was uncovered in Lviv region. The military are suspected of embezzling 2.6 million hryvnias (53,860 euros) on the procurement of army beds at inflated prices.
This was reported by the press service of the State Bureau of Investigation of Ukraine.
According to the agency, a former commander of one of the military units in the region, now serving as deputy head of the Zolochiv district administration, received a second suspicion.
The investigation indicates that the official did not conduct proper market monitoring and signed an agreement at almost double the price. However, even the purchased beds were not all delivered to the unit.
“In addition, the unit received from the contractor only 180 units worth more than 1.1 million hryvnias (22,787 euros), while the rest were never delivered. Despite this, the commander instructed that 6.5 million hryvnias (134,648 euros) be transferred to the businessman for the entire batch,” the statement said.
It is noted that in November 2023 he was already caught embezzling funds during the procurement of RTS-50 tanks. That case has already been referred to court, which did not prevent the official from being promoted and continuing to deal with procurement.
The suspect faces up to eight years in prison.
Earlier, the media wrote that the former head of the Luhansk regional military administration and the Mukachevo district city administration, Serhiy Haidai, suspected of corruption in the procurement of drones and EW systems, was released. A bail of 10 million hryvnias (207,151 euros) was posted for him.
Also in August, more than 10 million hryvnias were stolen in Ukraine’s Ministry of Justice on servers for digitalization. Suspicion was announced against two current officials as well as a former state secretary of the ministry.
