In Odesa region, a military unit accountant is suspected of embezzling payments for missing soldiers

An accountant in a military unit in the Odessa region is suspected of embezzling 2.3 million hryvnias (52.8 thousand euros) in payments intended for missing soldiers.

This was reported by the State Bureau of Investigations of Ukraine.

The head of the financial and economic service simply indicated in the documents the payment card of his acquaintance. According to reports, the superior did not check the information. He has been informed of the suspicion.

As a result, the accountant unlawfully received 2.3 million hryvnias (52.8 thousand euros) intended for payments to military personnel.

The National Police has submitted an indictment to the court against him. The suspect is currently in custody. A civil lawsuit has been filed for the restitution of the damage caused.

It is worth noting that last year, an accountant in a military unit in the Odessa region was also arrested. According to the investigation, he transferred money intended for military personnel’s payments from the unit’s account to his personal bank card for three months. In this way, he embezzled 5 million hryvnias (almost 115 thousand euros). He also embezzled an equal amount by transferring funds to the accounts of his acquaintances.

In the Dnipropetrovsk region, the deputy commander of a military unit was arrested, suspected of embezzling night vision devices worth nearly 4 million hryvnias (about 92 thousand euros).
