05.07.2024 - 11:33In Odesa, law enforcement officers detained two doctors who had organized a scheme for hospitalizing draft evaders and subsequently removing them from the military register.
This information was provided by sources in law enforcement to journalists.
“Detained were the head of the 4th department of the Odesa Psychiatric Hospital No. 2, Oleksandr Ustinsky, and his father, attending physician Serhiy Ustinsky. They established a scheme for hospitalizing draft evaders who received summonses to report to the territorial recruitment center, and then issued them certificates of unfitness for military service. During searches of their offices, law enforcement officers seized $45,000, 1.5 euros, and 452,000 hryvnias,” the source said.
A criminal case has been opened. The offenders face five to ten years in prison.
Earlier, it was reported that another scheme for smuggling Ukrainians abroad was uncovered in Zakarpattia. Employees of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine detained a hotel owner who was helping men illegally leave Ukraine for $8,000.
It was also reported that a former MP was earning up to $100,000 a month by providing fake disability certificates to draft evaders.
