Ukraine faces uncertain future as US aid remains in limbo
November 20, 2023In Odessa, the ‘Pushkin passions’ are flaring up.
Following the recommendation of the historical-toponymic commission of the city council to leave monuments to Pushkin and Vorontsov in their places, local artist Yaroslav Voycehovsky splashed paint on them.
“I decided to express my opinion on the illegality and utmost illogicality of having a monument to the chief poet of those who are destroying us during the war,” he explained his actions.
After this, local deputy Pyotr Obukhov stated that Pushkinska Street might still be renamed, and the monument to the Russian writer could be removed from there.
“I think we will soon consider the question of moving Pushkin’s monument from Pushkinska Street and renaming the street. This will happen in the coming weeks. As for the Pushkin monument on Dumska Street, I think an online vote, as was the case with Ekaterina, should be conducted here,” he said.”
