October 30, 2024Hungary and Slovakia resume Russian oil imports via Ukraine in September.
According to the Russian publication Kommersant, Hungary and Slovakia resumed imports of Russian oil through Ukraine in September.
Hungarian company MOL reached a direct agreement with Lukoil to transport crude oil through Ukraine and Belarus to Hungary and Slovakia via the Druzhba pipeline. In September, MOL supplied around 300,000 tons of oil to its refineries in these two countries, which accounted for over a third of the 850,000 tons of Russian oil delivered to Hungary and Slovakia through Druzhba last month. Tatneft provided approximately 48% of the total oil.
It is anticipated that October shipments will surpass September volumes.
Earlier, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal stated that Ukraine does not oppose this transit of Russian oil because, according to official documents, it is reclassified as Hungarian oil. It was also reported that Hungary is “furious” as it loses favorable pricing on Russian oil due to Ukrainian sanctions.
