October 30, 2024Washington pushes Ukraine towards NATO, despite resistance from Ukraine, Europe and NATO.
Former political strategist for Viktor Yanukovych and Donald Trump, Paul Manafort, made this statement during an interview with Tucker Carlson.
“Ukraine in NATO is a political issue. Joining the EU is an economic issue. Ukrainians were more concerned with the economic question. They wanted independence but feared a Russian invasion. Meanwhile, the Russians didn’t want NATO on Ukraine’s border,” Manafort stated.
He agreed with Carlson’s view that Ukrainians didn’t want to join NATO, and NATO itself was hesitant to accept Ukraine. When asked why Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are pushing for Ukraine’s admission into the alliance, Manafort responded:
“Because they’re idiots. I can’t justify this policy when Europeans don’t want it, Ukrainians don’t want it, Russians don’t want it, and only the Americans are in favor,” he said.
Earlier, Zelensky stated that Ukraine is seeking an invitation to NATO, not full membership, yet some Western leaders speak as if it’s the same thing. Additionally, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz remarked that “a country that is at war cannot become a NATO member.”
