October 31, 2023Two law enforcement officers from the city of Sumy, Ukraine, posed as military leaders and requested one million hryvnias worth of cigarettes from a tobacco company as humanitarian aid for the military.
This incident was reported by the State Investigation Bureau.
“The individuals forged letters on behalf of the leadership of one of the military units and approached representatives of the tobacco company. In the letters, they requested cigarettes as humanitarian aid for the military,” the statement said.
They received 15,000 packs of cigarettes from the manufacturer, valued at over one million hryvnias (over 26,000 euros). However, the cigarettes never reached the military, as the culprits sold them on the market and through the internet.
The case has been referred to the court.
