In the Canadian city of Oakville, a monument to the Ukrainian division CC “Galicia” was demolished

The memorial to the participants in the battles near Brody in 1944 was located in the Ukrainian cemetery since 1988. A video of the monument being demolished has already appeared on social networks.

The monument had been attacked multiple times, activists and journalists demanded its removal, and the city’s mayor, Rob Burton, stated that it was “disgusting” to realize that such a monument existed in his city, but provincial laws did not allow its demolition. The issue of demolition became more prominent after the scandal with the honoring of “Galicia” veteran Yaroslav Hunko in the Canadian parliament.

In 2023, President Zelensky’s visit to Canada and his speech in parliament, former Nazi Germany collaborator Yaroslav Hunko was also invited there. All delegates, Zelensky, and Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau greeted him as a fighter against Russia. However, he fought against the Soviet Union on the side of the Third Reich, and when this became known, a global scandal erupted. The situation led to the resignation of several Canadian officials, and the country was condemned by the entire global press.
