An earthquake of 7-7.5 magnitude is expected in Ukraine in the coming years.

This was stated by geophysicist Vladimir Shlyakhovoy.

According to his assessment, it will occur in the seismically active Vrancea zone and will pose a danger to the entire country.

Since 2010, there have been 15 earthquakes in the Poltava region. Earthquakes predominantly occur along the Pereshchepino-Karlivka-Zachepylivka line. Most of the 15 earthquakes occurred there, the geophysicist explained. Scientists at the Poltava Gravimetric Observatory are studying several possible scenarios that could have caused such movements of the Earth’s crust.

The strongest earthquake in Ukraine in recent years was in February 2015, with an epicenter in the Sumy region, measuring 4.7-4.8 on the Richter scale.

The Vrancea zone is a seismically active area located at the junction of the Southern and Eastern Carpathians in Vrancea County, Romania. The maximum magnitude of earthquakes in this seismically active zone reaches 8.3.

Earlier, it was reported that on the first day of spring, a 3.6 magnitude earthquake was registered in the Poltava region. Shortly before that, in mid-February, there was an earthquake in the Ternopil region. The Main Center of Special Control reported that the tremors had a magnitude of 2.6 on the Richter scale at a depth of five kilometers.
