April 21, 2025On the evening of April 20 in Kamianske, Dnipropetrovsk region, a drunken man in military uniform opened fire with an assault rifle on Kharkivska Street, in the courtyard of a residential building.
The incident was reported by local Telegram channels, with videos of the scene shared online.
Around 7:45 PM, a heavily intoxicated man in uniform began shooting in the courtyard, apparently following a dispute with a local resident. According to reports, the shooter is an active-duty soldier who had recently returned from the front.
The conflict allegedly stemmed from a long-standing personal dispute. The soldier reportedly confronted the man over a past incident and threatened him with a firearm—without concern for the neighbors, including children present nearby. Surveillance footage shows a terrified child darting behind the man being targeted as the intoxicated soldier took aim.
Remarkably, no one was injured, but the incident has raised serious concerns.
“An armed, intoxicated individual with combat experience walking around a residential area, ready to use a weapon at any moment—is a disturbing reality,” one local resident commented.
The victim said the conflict began a year ago, after the soldier allegedly assaulted his sister. After joining the military, the soldier later sent a threatening message: “I’ll be back soon—for you.”
Police detained the man, and a court is now deciding on a preventive measure. Meanwhile, locals are increasingly asking a difficult question: Is society truly prepared for the return of soldiers from the front? And is the state doing enough to monitor those bringing weapons and trauma back home?
“My birthday is on April 14—but today feels like a second one,” said the man who narrowly escaped being killed.
