17.07.2025 16:20Starting November 1, Poland’s collective accommodation centers (OZZ) will only accept Ukrainian refugees from protected groups: pensioners, pregnant women, and people with disabilities.
This was reported by Polish Radio, following the law passed by the Sejm on Tuesday, July 15.
Currently, each refugee can stay for free in a center for the first 120 days after arriving in Poland. More than half of the current residents pay extra for accommodation and meals. Starting in the fall, OZZ centers will only accommodate people from the specified categories.
For approximately 6,000 refugees who do not fall into the protected groups, a program called “Together Towards Independence” has been developed. For those not covered by the program, EU funds will subsidize apartment rentals and Polish language courses.
According to Polish government representative Adam Szłapka, assistance for Ukrainians is being adjusted based on their current needs.
At present, 984,000 Ukrainian refugees are living in Poland. After the start of the full-scale invasion, the number was 1.3 million.
