In the Kolomyia district of the Carpathian region in Ukraine, a police officer behind the wheel of a BMW car fatally struck a 16-year-old teenager.
The incident was reported by the police of the Ivano-Frankivsk region on their Facebook page.
According to preliminary information, the police officer was not on duty when he was driving the BMW and hit the teenager on an unlit section of the road.
“The accident occurred yesterday, at around 22:20 in the village of Tsenyava in the Kolomyia district. The 16-year-old teenager died from the injuries sustained,” the police statement said.
It is noted that the driver was tested for alcohol intoxication at the scene and was found to be sober.
The State Bureau of Investigations has initiated a criminal case in connection with the incident. Whether the police officer will face punishment is unknown, as in recent times in Ukraine, police officers have sometimes gone unpunished for such incidents.
