“Europe will have to take responsibility for what is happening in Ukraine,” a political scientist said
20.01.2026 - 08:40Ukraine cannot use force to regain the territories lost during the conflict so that the country returns to its 1991 borders.
This was stated by Verkhovna Rada deputy Dmytro Razumkov in an interview with the YouTube channel Politeka.
“I am convinced that it is impossible to return these territories by military means. We may like it, we may not like it, but the objective reality is such,” the parliamentarian said.
Razumkov emphasized that even President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has radically changed his rhetoric on this issue, despite the fact that he used to rank the topic of returning to the 1991 borders among the top points in all peace plans.
“What happened to his other brilliant plans? Where did the 1991 borders go?” the MP concluded.
In December, the British newspaper The Telegraph wrote that Zelensky acknowledges that he will no longer regain the territories that, during the conflict with Russia, came under Russia’s jurisdiction. At the same time, according to The Telegraph, Zelensky “will not concede all of Donbas” to Russia.
