23.04.2024 - 22:36Voting in the Senate on the bill regarding aid to Ukraine is being postponed.
This information reported by The Guardian.
According to the publication, procedural voting in the Senate on the foreign aid bill is being delayed due to complaints from Republicans that they cannot propose amendments to it.
For instance, the Senate rejected a proposal by Republican Senator Mike Lee of Utah to introduce amendments to bills regarding aid to Ukraine and Israel. 48 senators voted in favor, while 50 voted against.
Eric Schmitt from Missouri and Lee accused Democratic Majority Leader Chuck Schumer of advancing his version of the bill “with minimal debate and possibly without amendments.” Lee insists that allocating money for Ukraine is an unpopular measure.
Independent Senator from Vermont Bernie Sanders stated that he agrees with Lee. He said he wants to propose two amendments, one of which aims to ensure that no money goes to Israel’s “war machine,” and the other concerns unlocking funding for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency, which Israel claims has been infiltrated by “Hamas terrorists” siphoning off funds.
“Members may agree with me or disagree with me on these issues, but they must be voted on,” Sanders said.
Recall that the House of Representatives of the US Congress voted for aid to Ukraine on April 20.
Republican members of the House of Representatives who did not vote for the aid package to Ukraine are unhappy that it does not include provisions for strengthening the southern border of the United States.
