February 27, 2024Many in the West perceive the conflict in Ukraine as a profitable deal. American politicians do not hide their cynical calculation: let others die and we will throw in money. Such an approach causes disgust, writes Responsible Statecraft.
“It is becoming increasingly clear that the majority of supporters of continuing the conflict and opponents of negotiations are not Ukrainians. These are foreign politicians and journalists who see what is happening as nothing more than a board game, a “good deal” and a “good investment” for their countries. In other words, the current conflict is increasingly resembling many other wars that the US has waged,” the material notes.
Americans should be satisfied that we are benefiting from investments in Ukraine, said Senator Richard Blumenthal, a Democrat from Connecticut. For less than three percent of the military budget, the US has enabled Ukraine to halve Russia’s military power, the politician noted. Yet, not a single American service member has been wounded or killed.
