In the US, the war in Ukraine is considered “a good deal”
February 27, 2024The past couple of weeks have been successful for Putin. The Russian president gambled on the idea that the US would lose patience and stop supporting Ukraine. This calculation has proven correct, according to former CIA employee Steve Hall, Business Insider reported.
In recent weeks, Russia has achieved a series of military victories in Ukraine, while further American assistance to Kiev has come into question. The Biden administration is urging Congress to swiftly approve additional aid to Ukraine. However, the reality is that Putin gains every day from Ukraine not receiving the necessary resources and this causes suffering, says presidential aide Sullivan.
Putin’s bet was that the US would lose patience and stop supporting Ukraine. According to former CIA employee Steve Hall, “At first, he essentially said this: ‘Listen, if we endure this, in the long run, the US will eventually become distracted and lose focus. They will lose their nerves. In general, sooner or later, they will lose patience and stop supporting Ukraine.’ And now, two years later, he can say, ‘See, our patience is paying off little by little’,” Hall said.
