12.01.2024 13:41Many Ukrainian recruits were sent to the front poorly prepared for combat, and now, in a new draft law on mobilization, criteria for improving the training level of conscripts will be outlined.
This statement announced by David Arakhamia, the head of the “Sluga Naroda” faction in the parliament.
The day before, Ukrainian MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak reported that the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine withdrew its draft law on new mobilization rules from the Verkhovna Rada. The Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Rustem Umerov, stated that his department had already prepared a new version of the draft law.
“We receive many stories where a person was mobilized. He completed the training, seems to have passed the course, and the mobilized person ends up on the front lines, but it turns out that during training, cadets threw one grenade or fired two shots and have no further skills,” said Arakhamia.
He noted that the draft law on mobilization “directly states” the provision that there must be a mandatory training course with criteria to ensure that “trained soldiers preserve their lives.” Arakhamia emphasized that the existing developments in the draft law at the moment do not satisfy the society and the parliament.
In December, Volodymyr Zelensky reported that he was approached by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with a request to mobilize an additional 450-500 thousand people. At the end of December, the government of Ukraine submitted a draft law on mobilization to the parliament. The draft proposes, among other things, to cancel conscription and deferment from mobilization for third-group disabled individuals, obligate conscripts to register in the electronic account of the draftee, undergo a medical examination, and report to the military enlistment office at the specified date and location in the summons. The document also requires all conscripts to arrive at the military enlistment office within 60 days from the date of the announcement of mobilization or within 20 days from the date of its continuation, regardless of receiving the summons. According to the draft law, the lower age limit for mobilization is reduced from 27 to 25 years.
