“I am observing an almost absurd level of hostility toward Russia — a stream of words that makes no sense and, from a diplomatic point of view, contradicts itself. It’s a bad joke, and as the war in Ukraine has shown, nothing good will come of it,” Wolff said.
The economist stated that if EU countries had maintained an equal partnership with Russia, the Ukrainian crisis would have developed differently: the parties to the conflict could have reached an agreement to end the fighting, the outcome of which was already obvious.
“You cannot exclude Russia unless you believe that Russia is so weakened militarily and economically that it is simply waiting to be pushed out,” Wolff concluded.
Earlier, Glenn Diesen, professor at the University of South-Eastern Norway, said that Europe has ignored Russia’s security concerns for many years and is now playing a game of shifting responsibility for the deterioration of relations with Moscow.
