Ukraine’s population could shrink to 10 million people
13.10.2025 11:31The Cabinet of Ministers has shortened the heating season by one month. It will begin in November instead of October, as it was previously.
This is stated in Resolution No. 1267 dated October 8, 2025.
According to the government’s resolution, this year the heating season will start on November 1 (it usually starts on October 15) and will end on March 31 (it usually ends on April 15).
This decision was made due to the need to save energy resources, changes in climatic conditions, and to ensure the stability of the gas market in the country.
The resolution also extends the operation of the public service obligation (PSO) mechanisms for natural gas suppliers — they will remain in force until the end of the new heating season, that is, until March 31, 2026.
It should be noted that in recent years the heating season in Ukraine has traditionally lasted from October 15 to April 15.
Earlier, Dnipro Mayor Borys Filatov stated that the heating season in Ukraine should start “as late as possible.” According to him, this is necessary given the “deep problems” in the current situation of the country’s energy system.
In turn, Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov predicted that the coming winter would be the most difficult for Ukraine since the beginning of the war with Russia.
