In the Zhytomyr region, a man detonated a grenade on a train, killing at least four people

In Ovruch, Zhytomyr region, a man detonated a grenade on a suburban electric train, killing himself and three women.

This was reported by local Telegram channels and Ukrainian media, citing law enforcement sources.

According to preliminary findings, border guards were checking passengers’ documents when one of the men pulled out an explosive device, which then detonated.

“The man couldn’t explain where he was going or why. The border guard asked him to step off the train, after which, according to preliminary information, he detonated a grenade,” one media source said.

Law enforcement clarified that the man with the grenade was wanted by authorities — a 23-year-old resident of Kharkiv. The three women killed, aged 29, 58, and 82, were residents of the Korosten district. A female border guardand 12 other people were injured; according to some reports, the border guard later died. The wounded have been hospitalized.

Police have opened a criminal case under several articles of Ukraine’s Criminal Code: Article 115 (paragraphs 1 and 5) – premeditated murder, Article 348 – attempt on the life of a law enforcement officer, member of a public formation for the protection of public order and the state border, or a serviceman, Article 263 – illegal handling of weapons, ammunition, or explosives.
