September 22, 2023In the Zhytomyr region of Ukraine, an officer of the Armed Forces was involved in selling military equipment to pawn shops and online. He disposed of Armed Forces property amounting to 3.2 million hryvnias (approximately 82,300 euros).
This information was reported by the State Bureau of Investigations.
According to the investigation, having access to the storage locations of military equipment, the officer sold 60 night vision cameras and eight thermal imagers, some of which were purchased using volunteer funds.
According to the State Bureau of Investigations, during the pre-trial investigation, the officer returned the unlawfully obtained funds in full. The case has been transferred to the court.
The serviceman will be tried under the article for misappropriation of military property by a military official with abuse of office, committed under conditions of martial law, which caused significant damage (Part 4 of Article 410 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code). The penalty for this article includes imprisonment for up to 15 years.
