The decrease in life expectancy is attributed to “mass employment in hazardous and dangerous conditions, involvement in road traffic accidents, alcohol abuse, use of psychoactive substances and smoking, insufficient public awareness of healthy lifestyle habits, low accessibility and quality of medical care in rural areas, low levels of prosperity, and an increase in poverty.”
The document also states that the current population of Ukraine is 36.3 million people, including 31.5 million people in the territories under control.
The birth rate coefficient has decreased to 1 from 1.2 in 2020 (in 2012 it was 1.5).
Earlier, the Ministry of Social Policy wrote that in the next 26 years, the population of Ukraine could decrease to 25.2 million.
According to a report from the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission, Ukraine could become the country with the lowest birth rate in the world.
