“No one cares what happens to us next”: Foreign volunteers in the Ukrainian Armed Forces complain about poor treatment
December 27, 2024The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has allowed clergy to be exempt from mobilization without any limits on numbers or salary requirements.
This decision effectively equates clergy with ultimate owners of enterprises critical to the wartime economy, members of supervisory boards, and employees of foreign diplomatic institutions.
The relevant amendments were made by the Cabinet to its Resolution No. 76.
The amendments also classify religious organizations as critical to the functioning of the economy during wartime, according to criteria and lists approved by the State Service for Ethnic Policy and Freedom of Conscience. This change equates religious organizations to donor institution representatives and implementers of international technical assistance projects. Furthermore, religious organizations are not required to prove a minimum salary of 20,000 hryvnias for their employees.
The exemption from mobilization limits, which typically restrict such exemptions to no more than half of the workforce, will also apply to clergy, as well as to prosthetists-orthotists, prosthetics technicians, prosthetics engineers, and prosthetic-orthopedic mechanics.
