In Ukraine in 2024, the number of crimes and their clearance rate increased

Unofficial crime statistics for the first two months of 2024 have surfaced in the media. The National Police of Ukraine registered 19,969 criminal offenses. This is 2,638 cases more than in the same period last year.

According to the registry of offenses, the highest growth was recorded in the following types of crimes: intentional homicides, rapes, fraud, crimes against the environment, hooliganism and dissemination of pornography.

In addition to the increase in the number of criminal offenses, a decrease in the effectiveness of solving certain types of crimes has been recorded. Thus, individuals who inflicted grievous bodily harm remain unpunished (the number of unsolved crimes increased by 33%), robberies increased by 40%, illegal possession or use of firearms increased by 9% more often. The number of unsolved fatal road accidents also increased by 75%, car thefts increased by 33%, drug-related crimes increased by 60% and the number of document forgeries increased by 72%.
