A chance for peace: what does Trump’s victory mean for Ukraine?
November 6, 2024The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) are creating new brigades instead of replenishing existing ones due to the increased length of the front line and the growing number of Russian troops.
This was stated by the spokesperson for the General Staff of the AFU, Captain Dmytro Lykhovyi.
“In order to cover the front, it is necessary to create new brigades within the AFU. There is no other effective way to counter a superior enemy. Today, we have 1,300 kilometers of front with active combat engagements,” he emphasized.
According to the spokesperson for the Ukrainian General Staff, Russian forces have a significant advantage at the front line, forcing the AFU to redeploy individual units to areas where there is a risk of losing positions. He also noted that there is currently no ability to quickly replenish existing Ukrainian army brigades.
Earlier, Verkhovna Rada deputy Maryana Bezuhla attributed the surrender of some Ukrainian positions to the decision to form new brigades instead of replenishing existing ones. She stated that this approach was also used by former commander-in-chief Valerii Zaluzhnyi, which she described as a tragedy for Kyiv.
