03.04.2024 - 11:50There is a possibility that access to the video-hosting platform TikTok may be banned in Ukraine.
This has been stated not for the first time by the head of the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Freedom of Speech, Yaroslav Yurchyshyn.
Previously, he mentioned that a condition for such a step would be the platform’s ban in the United States. Now, however, Yurchyshyn is confident that Ukraine can do it on its own if TikTok allegedly continues to ignore Russian propaganda on its platform.
“The Center for Countering Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council has identified an entire network engaged in Russian propaganda on TikTok. I haven’t heard any reaction from TikTok. If TikTok does not react and this situation continues to escalate, such a situation may arise,” said Yurchyshyn.
According to the head of the committee, the authorities currently do not want to ban the application and prefer to negotiate.
Earlier, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill that could lead to the ban of TikTok in America.
“TikTok allows the Chinese Communist Party to spread harmful content among young people and engage in malicious activities, such as collecting confidential data of Americans,” said House Speaker Mike Johnson.
